Stress Position

Stress Position

April 17, 2016

From my final doctoral recital at Northwestern University (April 23, 2011), here’s an extended excerpt from Stress Position (2008), by composer Drew Baker.  An unusual physical challenge in the piano repertoire and a powerful and uncomfortable piece to witness, this work was Drew’s response to the US government’s use of torture as it came to light during the Bush administration.  I believe I was the second pianist to perform this work, which was written for and premiered by Marilyn Nonken.
