Cadenza for the Brahms Violin Concerto (2012)
3 minutes, commissioned by violinist Elissa Cassini.
Transcription of the finale from Kodály's Solo Cello Sonata (2005–2006)
A student work that was inspired by hearing János Starker give extended master classes on the Kodály solo cello sonata, I aimed to create a virtuoso piano transcription (of just the finale) in the turn-of-the-century grand tradition. For the most part, I think it’s successful, and I got a nice note from Starker about it at the time. About 11 minutes long.

A 13-minute parody concerto that, as you might guess from the title, is built from the ruins of other pieces. For violin and piano or violin and small orchestra (2*222-4000-tmp-pno-str). For a musically literate audience it’s a lot of fun, but because the soloist has to learn difficult passagework that’s similar to but not quite the same as passages they already know from the concerto repertoire, and/or shift between fragments of different pieces on a dime, it’s quite demanding for what’s essentially a joke. Written during my student years, after accompanying hundreds of hours of violin lessons.

In Brief (2022)
A companion piece to You were of that light, this short piece (1.5 minutes) for young string quartet was also commissioned by the family of Georgia Marriott to commemmorate the 20th anniversary of her passing. It uses some of the same material as the larger work but set in an abbreviated form and for non-professional performers.
Rhythmic Studies, Book I (2016)
Twelve miniatures for the young pianist (intermediate to early advanced), each covering some aspect of rhythm or meter. Titles like “Tardigrade” and “Weightless Waltz.”
